Job Description

The Bureau of Asset Management is responsible for oversight of the investment portfolios of the five New York City pension systems. Through a culture of collaboration, individual development, and teamwork that leverages diverse talent and strives for continuous improvement, the goal of the Bureau of Asset Management is to achieve exceptional investment outcomes for all stakeholders; to deliver outstanding support to plan Trustees; and to serve as a responsible steward of the resources of plan beneficiaries and the City of New York.
The Investment Officer will assist in overseeing the Public Equity allocation, which currently totals approximately $117 billion. The Investment Officer will report to the Head of Public Equity.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Analyze portfolio construction, provide recommendations on manager allocation, manager selection and sizing. Contribute towards building a more efficient portfolio to meet investment objectives of the systems.
- Working with the investment team and the Systems consultants to identify, review and evaluate both prospective and current investment managers
- Documenting the investment manager due diligence process
- Monitoring and relationship management of a portion of the portfolio of existing investment managers
- Preparing and presenting decision-making documents for the internal BAM Investment Committee and Boards of Trustees
- Overseeing the funding of investment managers and the transition of assets
- Drafting, maintaining and revising investment manager guidelines and providing input for policy statements as needed
- Designing criteria and parameters for analysis of market trends, strategies, industries, sectors, geographies and other topics as required
- Performing related assignments or special projects as required.
INVESTMENT MANAGER (COMPTROLLE - 95611
- Expertise and experience in public equity investment manager sourcing, evaluation and due diligence is strongly preferred. - Strong background in portfolio management, structuring, and monitoring. - Practical experience of using Python for portfolio analysis and data processing is strongly preferred. - CFA Charterholder, or progress toward earning the Charter is strongly preferred. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). - Excellent quantitative, writing, presentation, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. - Familiarity with eVestment, FactSet, BarraOne or other analytical systems. Minimum Qualifications/Requirements: - A graduate degree from an accredited college or university in business, economics, finance, accounting or a closely related field, and three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience in a financial services organization handling complex financial issues with considerable exposure to public equity funds, and asset management (private equity, public equity, hedge funds, etc.) or similar experience at a consulting firm/bank or - BS/BA degree from an accredited college with major studies in the fields mentioned above and five (5) or more years of progressively responsible professional experience as described above or - A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience as described above.
