The Parks Advocate’s Office is a division within the New York City Parks Department and is responsible for investigating and prosecuting allegations of employee misconduct and takes appropriate disciplinary action when warranted. The Parks Advocate’s Office also oversees the Agency’s drug and alcohol testing program.
Major Responsibilities
- Under supervision, conduct routine investigations into allegations of employee misconduct. Investigations include gathering documentary and written evidence, conducting surveillance, facility inspections, subject and witness interviews and report-writing.
- Collect and verify data and evidence, conduct surveillance and examine and analyze records.
- Interview subjects and witnesses.
- Maintain case records and investigative files, prepare related correspondence and reports and make recommendations for appropriate action to be taken following investigations.
- Analyze and evaluate existing and proposed Agency procedures.
- Work in close coordination with other government investigative agencies.
- Testify at administrative and/or court proceedings when warranted.
- Work in the field and office.

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in one or more of the fields of accounting, auditing, correction administration, criminal justice administration and planning, forensic science, inspection, investigation, law enforcement, personnel administration, police science, and security, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
1. Bachelor’s degree with coursework in criminal justice, human resources, public administration or related field. 2. Excellent writing, research and interpersonal skills. 3. Knowledge of investigatory procedures 4. Ability to handle confidential matters. 5. Valid New York State driver license.
