The Bureau of Administration is committed to delivering strategic support services to strengthen and empower Office of the New York City Comptroller employees as they work toward ensuring the City's fiscal health. We provide service and support in a manner that promotes communication, transparency, and collaboration. These services include Human Resources, Procurement, Payment, Facilities Management, and Budget Management.

The intern will gain hands-on technical experience through task specific office work and a mentoring relationship with senior-level technical staff. The internship will familiarize the intern with the City's Fiscal Management process and focus on Invoice Compliance and Centralization Support Project: the centralization of invoice intake and processing within the Accounts Payable Unit.

Responsibilities of the Finance Unit Intern include, but are not limited to:

- Study how invoices currently enter the agency, how they are tracked, reviewed, and approved, and where risks or inefficiencies arise when intake is decentralized across units
- Learn how controls, accountability, and workflow design protect public funds while balancing vendor responsiveness and operational realities
- Design a Centralized Intake Framework: -Create a visual workflow (as is vs to be)
- Develop a practical intake checklist or tracker template
- Perform other duties and assignments as may be required


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: Matriculation at an accredited college. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in college. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program for the Fall 2026 semester. This position is ideal for college students pursuing majors/minors in the fields of Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics or Data/Business Analytics or related field.


IMPORTANT:
- Our office is located at the David Dinkins Municipal Building, 1 Centre St. in Manhattan/New York.
- All interns will work in-person in the office, Monday – Thursday, 28 hours per week.
- The employment period will be from June 1 – July 30, 2026.

Minimum Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
