The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The New York City Department of Correction seeks to recruit Intel Analyst for the Correction Intelligence Bureau (CIB). The Intel Analyst will play a crucial role in the Department of Correction by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to criminal behavior, recidivism, and the effectiveness of correctional programs. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with law enforcement agencies, correctional staff, and community organizations to enhance public safety and improve rehabilitation initiatives.

Hours/Shift: Mon-Fri 7x3 with overtime when required for projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Collection and Analysis:

- Gather and analyze data from various sources including inmate records, incident reports, and
external law enforcement databases.
- Identify trends, patterns, and correlations in criminal behavior related to incarcerated
populations.

Reporting and Presentation:

- Prepare comprehensive reports and visual presentations of analytical findings for
stakeholders, including senior management and community partners.
- Communicate your analysis of statistical findings to executive staff via presentations.

Program Evaluation:

- Assess the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs and strategies aimed at reducing
recidivism.
- Monitor key performance indicators and recommend improvements based on data-driven
evaluations.

Collaboration and Communication:

- Collaborate with other departments, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations
to share intelligence and strategies for crime reduction.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on crime analysis and provide guidance to departmental staff
and management.

Policy Development Support:

- Assist in the development of policies and practices related to corrections based on empirical
data and best practices.
- Provide recommendations for operational improvements to enhance safety and efficiency
within correctional facilities.

Training and Capacity Building:

- Conduct training sessions for correctional staff on data interpretation and the application of
analytical findings in daily operations.
- Foster a culture of data-informed decision-making within the department.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, or a related field (Masters degree preferred). - Experience in data analysis, preferably within a criminal justice or corrections setting. - Proficiency in statistical software, data visualization tools, and database management (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Excel, Tableau). - Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a focus on problem-solving. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and manage multiple projects effectively. - Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices in the criminal justice field.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
