The DSS Accountability Office (DSS-AO) is responsible for protecting the integrity of social services programs administered by the New York City Department of Social Services (DSS) and ensuring that DSS complies with all statutory, regulatory, and contractual standards.
The Estates Unit also provides administrative support to the Office of Legal Affairs, Support and Lien Recovery Litigation Unit (SLRLU) who provide litigation services and legal counsel to the Commissioner, Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) and (AO) in accordance with Federal, State, and City laws, rules, and regulations. Specifically, the Estates Unit represents DSS and asserts liens and claims against recipients’ assets for the recovery of benefits expended for public assistance and Medicaid.
OLT is recruiting for (1) one Clerical Associate IV to function as an Intake Clerk, who will:
- Research new inquiries received via postal mail, by checking the decedent information such as social security, date of birth, and date of death on the City’s Welfare Management System (WMS).
- Assign cases to staff on the OLA Web Portal (OLAW), as directed by the Unit Supervisor, as well as close out cases with payment on the OLAW as requested by the Unit Paralegals.
- Retrieve mail from the mailroom, and sort mail in groups for each staff member, as well as open new mail for the Unit and forward to Unit supervisors for assignment.
- Scan case information, all documents and claims into HRA One Viewer.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Unit Supervisors.
- Assist the Director of the Bureau with financial data computations and analysis for claiming purposes of grants and special projects.

Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
- Working knowledge of HRA / AO systems, such as WMS, EDW, HRA One Viewer, Assets - Excellent verbal and written communication skills
