The NYC Law Department is accepting applications for the position of Intake Attorney in the Brooklyn office of the Tort Division. Intake attorneys review every incoming case in certain borough offices and conduct intake analysis, perform litigation activities, and supervise Intake paralegals. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, reviewing and developing litigation strategies for new tort cases, participating in case reviews, drafting and reviewing pleadings, drafting affirmative and defensive motions, requesting, searching for, and analyzing agency documents and on-line data, referring cases to the Special Litigation Unit, Early Intervention Unit, and Senior Negotiator, and performing other litigation tasks as required. Intake Attorneys are also responsible for updating the on-line Intake Database and meeting with support staff and supervisors to discuss case-preparation strategies.

Applicants must be admitted and in good standing with the NYS Bar and be a graduate of an ABA approved law school. Applicants should have a broad knowledge of all areas of procedural and substantive Tort law; excellent writing and editing skills; and the ability to persuasively explain and advocate for the City’s interests. Applicants should possess at least two years of litigation experience after law school.
