Parks Enforcement Patrol (PEP) provides a uniformed presence in parks, assists the public and issues summonses for violating park rules.

Major Responsibilities
- Under direction, with varying degrees of latitude for independent initiative, judgment and decision, command over 500 uniformed, special operations and mounted law enforcement officers.
- Develop and implement programs, procedures and security measures to decrease criminal incidents and protect patrons of city and parks facilities.
- Manage security and enforcement logistics for major special events in parks throughout the city.
- Oversee training and placement of Parks Career Training (PACT) and Parks Opportunity Program (POP) participants assigned to the Parks Enforcement Patrol.
- Manage the PEP fleet and overtime budget and ensure facilities are in compliance with Health and Safety.
- Serve as agency representative and establish relationships with community groups and local organizations.
- Work with Parks Inspection Program plus management team and other agency divisions to improve field organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college plus four years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership, gardening, grounds maintenance, building maintenance or construction, of which 18 months must have been in an administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or

2. High school graduation or its educational equivalent plus six years of experience as described in "1" above; or

3.Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

Preference will be given to 1) employees who qualify for the APRM promotional exam 2) permanent employees in or on leave from a comparable title or 3) employees who are reachable on a comparable civil service list. 1. Education and/or experience in criminal justice. 2. Environmental law enforcement experience. 3. Excellent written and oral communication skills. 4. Ability to work a flexible schedule. 5. Possession of or eligible to obtain Police or Peace Officer status. 6. Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
