Job Description

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) supports youth and community services through contracts with a broad network of community-based organizations throughout New York City.
Our central task is administering available city, state, and federal funds to a wide range of innovative, practical and quality programs that positively impact youth and communities. The Initiative Manager will assist in the implementation and evaluation of various activities related to the community engagement and behavioral and culture change strategies of ONS. Under the direction of the ONS leadership, the Initiative Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Agency and stakeholder network building and coordination: regularly connect with agency partners,
non-profit partners, and community stakeholders to problem solve, evaluate progress in meeting
program goals, develop and implement solutions, hold collective accountability, and evaluate
effectiveness;

- Serve as liaison and intermediary to both community representatives and agency partners to
identify immediate responses and to further long-term strategy and investment for the agency
and City;

- Implement strategic programming that is aligned to address the social determinants driving
community violence and promote a culture safety consistent with ONS’s mission and core
values by organizing interventions and supportive service referrals to address community needs;

- Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track program and budget progress including
management of changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate
verification techniques and reporting and escalating to management as needed;

- Draft, edit and finalize written documents and program documentation, including but not limited to,
contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans, reviews, and other written and/or
oral materials as requested;

- Manage ongoing community transformation and resilience work related to the ONS, including the
supervision of borough specific initiatives and ONS program assistants.

- Perform other related duties as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

- Experience in and knowledge of youth development and community organizing preferred. - Excellent presentation, video editing, and design skills with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office, Canva, or similar platforms. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with relevant public speaking skills and the ability to distill messaging to a diverse range of audiences both digitally and in-person. - Excellent problem-solving, organization, and project management skills. - Team player with strong interpersonal skills resulting in exceptional rapport with people. - Ability to work independently and lead projects, take the initiative, think strategically, and work creatively. - Ability to multi-task and meet constricted deadlines designated by program requirements and needs. - Confidence, enthusiasm, and professionalism when communicating with external partners and the internal team

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
