Queens Borough President Donovan Richards seeks an Immigrant Welcome Center Coordinator to be part of his dynamic team.
The Immigrant Center Coordinator will report to the Director of Immigrant Affairs and work in conjunction with various policy area experts from within the office. We are seeking a candidate willing to be part of a collaborative, energetic and innovative team. The prospective staff member must be committed to seeking out new and better ways for the office to connect with, and deliver for, Queens’s diverse neighborhoods, communities and constituents – particularly its immigrant communities. The Immigrant Center Coordinator will represent the Borough President’s office and oversee key initiative areas.
May be required to work nights and weekends.
Under administrative direction, with latitude for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, assists and represents the Borough President in managing the activities of the Immigrant Welcome Center. Participates in initiative formulation and implementation. Specific responsibilities include:
- Cultivate meaningful relationships within immigrant communities such as, but not limited to, East Asian Communities, African Communities, Caribbean Communities, Latinx Communities, etc., which lead to impactful programming.
- Assist with community-based outreach about resources for immigrant communities and manage relationships with immigrant communities.
- Provide assistance and trainings for community groups and community-based organizations to further the office’s work.
- Represent the office at public meetings, local neighborhood community projects, celebrations, and community events.
- Prepare and submit reports and forms in accordance with office reporting requirements. Enter, update, and retrieve information on an electronic information storage system to facilitate agency operations.
- Performs all duties as needed to advance the work of the office and engage in intra-agency collaboration
May be required to work special events and provide translation services


Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.


Preferred Skills

Preferred Skills - Bilingual candidate preferred. We are seeking a candidate who is proficient in either Arabic, Korean, Bengali, Urdu, Mandarin, Cantonese, French or Russian. - Advanced working proficiency in Microsoft Office program, Internet-based research, and computer skills. - Well-organized, attentive to detail, assertive, and able to work independently and collaboratively. - Strong oral and written communication skills. - Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills. - Demonstrated aptitude with electronic file systems or other data management system This position will require occasional evening and weekend work.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
