Job Description
The Office of Human Resources and Employee Experience (HREX) is responsible for ensuring the Department complies with applicable labor and employment laws and City and Agency rules and policies. The unit provides guidance to managers and employees on a variety of topics including recruitment, employment, civil service, job and organizational design, labor relations, youth programs, benefits, wellness, performance evaluations, salary administration, timekeeping, and time and leave administration.
The selected candidate will be part of the Candidate Processing team in Staffing Management within HREX. The goal of the Candidate Processing team is to ensure a smooth offer, candidate engagement, and start date process. The selected candidate will engage with candidates from the start of their offer processing through onboarding and throughout their tenure as a new hire. The HR Assistant will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Making offers to new hires and assisting candidates with the application and onboarding process
- Act as the primary point of contact for candidate-specific issues with candidates, hiring managers and the background check team.
- Liaise with the Office of Internal Affairs and Discipline (IAD) team on candidate backgrounds and distribution on all applicant forms
- Coordinate and facilitate start dates with candidates, internal and external stakeholders.
- Process New Hire documentation including process of I9’s and other new hire forms
- Serve as liaison to external agencies, hiring managers and other business partners for agency release requests.
- Assist in the preparation of professional hiring statistics,
- Utilizing the New York City Automated Personnel System (NYCAPS) to enter candidate offers and other transactions, and tracking and reporting on all related activities
- Maintaining agency New Hire Tracker and providing ad hoc reports
- Tracking new hire data and creating recruitment reports
- Performing other HR work as requested, such as attending events, organizing HR activities, recruiting candidates, and review of candidate qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in one or more of the fields of criminal justice administration and planning, forensic science, human resources, labor relations, auditing, building inspection, or legal affairs; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above.
REMOTE WORK
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.
