The Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) advises the Mayor of the City of New York on criminal justice policy. MOCJ develops and implements strategies, with partners inside and outside government, to reduce crime and incarceration and to promote fairness and legitimacy. MOCJ works with law enforcement, city agencies, non-profits, foundations, and others to implement data-driven strategies that address current crime conditions, prevent offending, and build the strong neighborhoods that ensure enduring safety.
Pursuant to Article 18B of the County Law, the Assigned Counsel Plan (ACP), in consultation with the Presiding Justices of the Appellate Divisions in the First and Second Departments has been providing quality legal services to indigent persons since 1966.
The Human Resources Business Partner will oversee the day-to-day operational procedures and processes related to being a strategic partner with business units, advancing and promoting employee-centered initiatives, leveraging best practices, learning and development, fostering a diverse and inclusive environment, and serving as a resource across all departments.
Specific duties include:
- Review personnel actions including new hires, promotions, office and payroll title changes, unit changes, data changes, etc.
- Conducting and managing the new hire orientation process and presentation
- Coordinate the appointment, transfer, promotion, and resignation of employees
- Develops strategies for compliance
- Drives HR initiatives
- Partner with leadership to develop succession plans
- Conduct investigations in response to employee complaints
- Ensures bi-annual unit visits
- Liaise city agencies to effectuate and resolve personnel or related issues;
- Interface with management regarding the status of personnel actions and requisite approvals; and
- Administering benefits and liaising with OLR on employee benefits
- E-Vetting + P-Vetting for all standard and non-standard staff in assigned portfolio
- Facilitate and manage leaves of absence for employees in assigned portfolio
- Perform other duties and assignments as assigned.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, with 2 years’ post-college experience in a professional environment (government or non-profit background preferred) - Previous human resources experience is a plus, but not required - Superior ability to craft effective employee-centered communications (emails, PowerPoint, etc.), drawing upon excel for data-driven analysis - Stellar judgment and sensitivity when responding to the needs and expectations of multiple employee audiences (including frontline staff, managers, senior staff, leadership) - Excellent relationship management skills, influencing ability, and humility - Self-starter who is extremely organized, detail oriented and able to manage multiple priorities concurrently - Proven ability to handle sensitive material and information with discretion confidentiality is a condition of employment and - Strong aptitude/ability to pick up new skills quickly.
