The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the nation’s oldest and largest public housing authority with more than 176,000 apartments, and responsibility for administering a citywide Section 8 leased housing program that serves over 200,000 additional tenants. The Human Resources Department is seeking to hire an HR coordinator/ Classification Analyst to serve as an HR Generalist responding to inquiries and processing transactions on vacancies, backfilling, reviewing resumes, and position classifications.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Human Resources and the Supervisor of Classification Unit, with some latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the HR Generalist/ Classification Analyst performs professional or administrative work of more than ordinary difficulty and responsibility in the talent acquisition program. The HR Generalist/ Classification Analyst will function with versatility and engage multiple touch points to perform a range of duties, inclusive of but not limited to the following:

Key Responsibilities
1. Perform position classification reviews and determine best fit titles.
2. Conduct reviews to assess whether job candidates meet minimum qualification requirements for appointment; perform background and verification reviews.
3. Assist in the establishment of and placement of new classes of positions.
4. Liaise with the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and other City agencies on matters relating to city exam development, utilization of job titles, minimum qualification requirements and salary structure.
5. Conduct post-employment verifications and update Criminal Verification database.
6. Process and complete NYC Department of Investigation (DOI) reviews.
7. Schedule interviews and coordinate pre-employment screenings.
8. Process new appointments, title changes, promotions, demotions, and transfers.
9. Update and generate various HR reports as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills 2. Knowledge of HR practice, civil service rules and regulations 3. Ability to work independently and perform against tight deadlines with multiple concurrent priorities. 4. Detail oriented - ability to review and produce accurate, professional, and error-free analyses in a timely manner. 5. Excellent analytical, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills. 6. Knowledge of position reviews.
