Job Description

Reporting to and the under direction of the Borough Administrator, with some latitude of independent judgment, selected candidate will supervise the work of lower-level Housing Exterminators engaged in the prevention, control and elimination of insects, vermin and other pests. In addition, performs tasks such as the following:

1. Inspect premises and investigate complaints of infestation.
2. Determine the appropriate method of extermination to be used.
3. Schedule work to ensure coverage.
4. Issue staff assignments and follow up with status of work orders
5. Train staff.
6. Supervise and assign lower-level Housing Exterminators engaged in preparing and using insecticides, rodenticides, baits, traps, and related chemicals/equipment.
7. Monitor staff attendance by checking in the Kronos system - punch origins/lateness/missing swipes/travel swipes.
8. Conduct monthly meetings with your immediate staff (in-person or online) Order necessary supplies and equipment and keep related records.
9. Ensure you communicate with other supervisors for your respective borough or respective teams.
10. Supervise the preparation of the various substances used in exterminating.
11. Make recommendations for improving exterminating methods.
12. Keep records of exterminating operations and make reports thereon.
13. Perform quality assurance assessments.
14. May be required to perform exterminating duties.

Minimum Qualifications


1. A valid certificate as a Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator for Industrial, Institutional, Structural and Rodent Control (7A) issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. This certificate must be maintained for the duration of employment.

License Requirement
For appointment to certain positions, at the time of appointment eligible must possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

2. To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, two years of full-time satisfactory practical experience in the preparation and use of insecticides, rodenticides, baits, traps, and related chemicals/equipment for the extermination of insects, vermin and other pests.

3. To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, two years of full-time satisfactory practical experience in the preparation and use of insecticides, rodenticides, baits, traps, and related chemicals/equipment for the extermination of insects, vermin and other pests and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in a supervisory capacity, for a total of three years of experience.
