Under the direction of the Housing Manager and Leased Housing Department (LHD) policies and procedures, the Housing Assistant will work in the Leased Housing Department. As a Housing Assistant, your duties will include processing service requests for lease renewals and recertifications, responding to information requests, emails, and correspondence, and collaborating with other units within LHD to ensure the timely and accurate processing of cases.
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Use HUD regulations, NYCHA policy, and procedure to review and evaluate documents to process lease renewals, annual, and interim recertifications.
- Research and provide an accurate analysis of case activities.
- Resolve income discrepancies.
- Perform income verification.
- Complete case corrections.
- Ensure timely delivery of responses to inquiries.
- Identify and escalate case and system issues for immediate follow-up.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

HOUSING ASSISTANT (HA) - 80201
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
An associate degree or sixty semester credits from an accredited college and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in housing management at a development or developments containing at least 150 apartments, performing any one or a combination of the following duties: interviewing applicants; determining eligibility; gathering and evaluating information to resolve complaints; collecting rents; and/or resolving tenant-related problems; or
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and three years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in “1” above; or
A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience as described in "1" or "2" above. Undergraduate college credit may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of satisfactory full-time experience. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent.
