ABOUT OATH:
The City of New York’s Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH) is the nation’s largest administrative tribunal, holding approximately 400,000 trials and hearings a year. As the City’s central, independent administrative law court, OATH adjudicates a wide range of matters filed by nearly every city agency, board and commission. OATH also houses the Center for Creative Conflict Resolution which provides mediation and restorative justice support to City government agencies and the general public, and the Administrative Judicial Institute, a resource center that provides training, continuing education, research and support services for administrative law judges and hearing officers.
JOB DESCRIPTION
OATH’s Clerk’s Office is seeking to hire 1 Clerical Associate, Level III to work as a Hearings Support Clerk in our Brooklyn location. This individual will interact with members of the community who find themselves at OATH and need information as to how to proceed with summonses they have received. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the intake, processing, and calendaring of cases, as well as:
- Having significant contact with the general public to improve communication between the members of the public appearing at OATH and the agency.
- Responding to community inquiries and concerns.
- Ensuring that all members of the community appearing at OATH in-person or remotely through telephone or email understand the adjudication process.
- Providing case or other information and assistance to members of the community appearing at OATH.
- Investigating and attempting to resolve complaints from the public appearing before OATH.
- Ensuring that cases are processed in a timely manner to minimize wait time for the public.
- Serving as the primary liaison between OATH and the community who seek to schedule a hearing, and/or pay a fine.
- Reviewing, confirming and ensuring accurate information is provided to members of the community who have been issued summonses, so they understand what they need to do.
- Assisting in all aspects of processing cases efficiently when members of the public appear for hearings, so the public has timely access to justice.
- Performing routine office tasks, such as filing, keeping records and typing.

Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
1. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint. 2. Office experience as well as demonstrable background dealing with members of the public. 3. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 4. History of volunteerism, such as service in the AmericCorps or Peace Corps, is viewed favorably.
