The Department of Design and Construction is seeking a Health and Safety Officer, reporting to the Agency Chief of Staff/Operation’s Officer. The Health and Safety Officer will: complete NY PESH reports; provide Right to Know, Workplace Violence Prevention, Recycling training, and other training as required, as well as related reports; conduct safety walkthroughs, investigations of various incidents including incidents occurred at active construction sites, and develop safety recommendations as required for on-site staff, as well as field staff who support our agency’s capital programs; complete work-related injury and illness reports; coordinate the DDC Blood Drive quarterly; serve as Fire Safety Director, assisting the DDC community and the agency’s visitors in the building-wide fire drills, and maintenance of related equipment; attend labor and management meetings with DC 37; conduct borough office inspections annually; and respond to all medical emergencies. In addition, the selected candidate will order and maintain AED and CPR equipment and other required health supplies, and serve as the liaison with OEM, DCAS and DOHMH. The Officer will attend New Hire Orientation Program (NEOP). The selected candidate will maintain the DDC Employee Safety, Health and Environmental Field Reference Guide and Job Hazard Analysis Program to ensure proper safety procedures and training for DDC field personnel working on construction capital projects, and perform other duties as required.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations required. Previous City training experience, such as Right to Know, Workplace Violence Prevention needed. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Current CPR certification preferred.
