The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of New York City’s children and families by providing child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care services. In child welfare, ACS contracts with private nonprofit organizations to support and stabilize families at risk of a crisis through preventive services and provides foster care services for children not able to safely remain at home. Each year, the agency’s Division of Child Protection responds to more than 50,000 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect. In juvenile justice, ACS manages and funds services including detention and placement, intensive community-based alternatives for youth, and support services for families. ACS is also a key part of NYCs early childhood and education continuum, providing childcare assistance to thousands of child welfare involved and low-income children so they can access safe, affordable, quality care.
The NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is the City’s agency responsible for child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care and education services and is dedicated to protecting, supporting and promoting the well-being of our city’s children, youth and families each and every day. The Division of External Affairs serves as the public interface for ACS with the general public, stakeholders, elected officials, other City agencies and the media. The Marketing Department, within the Division of External Affairs, is seeking a Graphic Artist to assist with the development of print and digital creative support to the agency’s marketing needs and a wide variety of graphic design projects in order to raise the profile of ACS, programs, services, education and opportunities available to the public and job seekers. Reporting to a Senior Graphic Designer, the Graphic Designer will assist with the development of print and digital creative to support the agency’s marketing plans and a wide variety of graphic design projects in order to raise the profile of ACS’ programs, services and opportunities available to the public and jobseekers.
Job duties and responsibilities for the Graphic Designer position will include, but not be limited to:
- Assist with the design and production of various marketing materials, including signs, posters, invitations, newsletters, MS Power Point presentations, brochures, flyers, reports, apparel and ads for ACS’ website, and social media channels
- Meet with a range of staff throughout the agency and gathers information and materials to understand project requests
- Work across External Affairs team to ensure messaging is appropriate
- Coordinate with internal and external vendors to produce final materials (e.g., printing)
- Ensure all projects are consistent with the agency’s brand
- Assist the marketing team with marketing, brainstorming and advertising strategies
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed
(1) A baccalaureate degree, with a major in fine or graphic arts, from an accredited college and one year of full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist; or
(2) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus two years of training in a technical school approved by a state’s Department of Education or comparable governmental agency, in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout, computer graphics, and other art media, and three years of acceptable full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist.
To be qualified for assignment to Assignment Level II, individuals must have:
(a) at least one year of experience as a Graphic Artist, Assignment Level I; or
(b) the Qualification Requirements described in "1" or "2" above, plus two additional years of acceptable specialized paid experience conceptualizing and initiating graphic art projects.
The preferred candidate will possess the following skills: - Three to five years of professional, paid graphic design experience - Demonstrated artistic sensibility and creativity - Expert in Mac OSX, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat), Microsoft Word - Strong knowledge of composition and color and attention to detail - Ability to rapidly understand strategic objectives and suggest creative solutions - Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and complete on tight deadlines - Innovative thinking and problem-solving skills - Strong organizational and time management skills - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Ability to communicate with staff at all levels, including senior management, and translate important information into clear, concise and understandable terms - Professional and positive attitude and ability to take direction and feedback from various sources, as needed
