HPD is entrusted with fulfilling these objectives through the goals and strategies of Housing Our Neighbors: A Blueprint for Housing and Homelessness, Mayor Adams’ comprehensive housing framework. To support this important work, the administration has committed $5 billion in new capital funding, bringing the 10-year planned investment in housing to $22 billion the largest in the city’s history. This investment, coupled with a commitment to reduce administrative and regulatory barriers, is a multi-pronged strategy to tackle New York City’s complex housing crisis, by addressing homelessness and housing instability, promoting economic stability and mobility, increasing homeownership opportunities, improving health and safety, and increasing opportunities for equitable growth.
Your Team:
The Office of Enforcement and Neighborhood Services works closely with other HPD divisions and outside community partners to identify buildings with violations, develop appropriate strategies to address those properties, and either work with responsible owners to develop a plan to improve conditions and return buildings to firm financial footing and physical health or initiate appropriate enforcement action against owners who fail to comply. OENS is comprised of seven divisions which work with closely intertwined processes to accomplish the Office’s mission.
Your Role:
The Office of Enforcement and Neighborhood Services (OENS) seeks a qualified individual to serve as Foil & Correspondence Coordinator/Community Coordinator for a very active Office with a robust correspondence portfolio.
Your Impact:
As the Foil & Correspondence Coordinator/Community Coordinator you will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
Your Responsibilities:
- Performing as the Foils and Subpoena Liaison for the Division of Special Enforcement (DSE), the Emergency Operations Division (EOD) and the Division of Code Enforcement Lead-Based Paint Inspection Units within the Office of Enforcement and Neighborhood Services.
- Assisting with the FOIL Support / Open Records – Working in conjunction with the Agency’s FOILs Unit, assists with handling, processing, and responding to FOIL requests. Using the Open Records FOIL response site, access and input FOIL information into the database to better facilitate and expedite time sensitive FOIL requests.
- Contact ENS personnel in other depts. to gather information pertinent to the FOIL requests. Respond to FOIL requestors’ emails, updating them on the status of their requests.
- Assist in researching and responding to correspondence submitted to the Deputy Commissioner’s office from various stakeholders.
- Performing data entry and analysis including client information research and general queries using Microsoft Access and other HPD databases.
- Responding to general inquiries from the public, city agencies, and other HPD program units
- Providing information to elected officials, community boards, civic organizations and other stakeholders by responding quickly and accurately to requests for information pertaining to enforcement and repair issues.
- Assisting the OENS’ executive staff in preparing complex, sensitive, administrative materials, including personnel and budget related documents.
- Assisting with managing the correspondence tracking system and ensuring that all requests for information are addressed in a timely manner.
- Interacting with various OENS’ and HPD personnel liaisons.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
