Job Description
The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The DOC seeks to recruit Registered Nurses (RN) to support the Health Management Division (HMD). The selected candidate will be responsible for providing medical clearance for Correction Officer to wear a gas mask. The incumbent will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Administering blood pressure evaluations to staff;
- Evaluating medical questionnaires of the staff’s medical status;
- Maintaining statistical reports for management;
- Discussing cases with HMD physicians and management, when applicable;
- Collaborating with and accountable to HMD Physician for health and medical status assessments.
1. A valid New York State Registered Nurse License.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills. - Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is a plus. - Proficiency in EKG and blood pressure administration.
