THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $19.00 PER HOUR.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

ACS’ Division of Financial Services (DFS) is responsible for supporting, planning, implementing, and monitoring the fiscal functions of the agency in accordance with City, State and Federal guidelines. Within DFS, the Claiming Unit is responsible for ensuring that ACS’s expenditures, including those for foster care, subsidized childcare, preventive independent living services, and administration are claimed to the state and federal governments so that we receive revenue reimbursement. DFS is looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Data Undergraduate Intern to join our team.

As a Financial Data Undergraduate Intern, you will be responsible for documenting the intricacies of NYC’s Early Child Education’s payment and claiming systems in efforts to create a well-rounded reference guide of NYC’s integrated multi-agency early childhood education payment and federal claiming system. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to play an integral role in implementing New York State maximum childcare reimbursement rates for providers.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with improving inter-agency collaboration and transparency by documenting NYC’s Early Childhood Education / Childcare payment and federal claiming reports processes

- Audit reports obtained from the payment database as well as documents submitted by childcare providers

- Validate childcare provider cost attestations to ensure compliance and optimize the claiming process

- Implement NY State market rate updates for 75,000+ children by creating statewide tables for financial planning

- Interact with childcare providers via email, phone, and training presentations with other government agencies

- Support efforts to train and coach new hires to ensure seamless onboarding and integration into team processes

- Gain hands-on experience with documenting financial processes in a professional environment

- Learn how to audit reports, create financial planning spreadsheets, and validate costs

- Develop skills in collaborating across teams towards desired outcomes

Minimum Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.


Preferred Skills

- Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Math/Statistics, Public Policy, Data Science, Economics, or a related field - Familiarity with NYC’s Early Childhood Education/Childcare program - Strong Microsoft Excel skills, and solid analytic and quantitative skills - Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and interpret and understand complex requirements - Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PPT, Outlook, Teams) - Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization - There is a possibility of extending this summer internship to a full-year internship. As such, students from local colleges are preferred.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
