The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 9,000 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The Financial Services Division is responsible for the handling of several financial operations within the Department which include Accounts Payable, Personal Expense Reimbursement Commissary Operations and Facility Banking operations. The Department is seeking two candidates to join the Financial Services Division Facility Banking Operations Unit.

The individuals selected will be responsible for:
-Daily review of facility cashier activity including reports created and daily financial transactions.
-Daily review of facility bail activity including reports created and daily financial transactions.
-Daily review of facility meal money activity including reports created and daily financial transactions.
-Review of monthly trial balances, metrocard reconciliations and bank account reconciliations for
accuracy and completeness.
-Handling facility needs such as banking supplies and signature card changes.
-Train and/or retrain other Department staff in banking operations and reconciliation.
-Monitor wages paid for the work conducted by the people in custody.
-Ensure purchases orders related to the wage work program are sufficiently funded.
-Learn and implement any new financial systems or initiatives the Department chooses to undertake
in the future

*All candidates must be permanent in the title of Principal Administrative Associate.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in "1" above; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in "1" above;
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in "1" above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3½ years.
