The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards the smallest jail system possible without compromising public safety. The DOC is solely responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, providers, visitors, volunteers, and people in custody inside our jails. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to providing people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 9,000 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The Division of Programs and Community Partnerships seeks to recruit a Program Coordinator to support the Division’s programming services within assigned facilities. In addition to ensuring the coordination of reentry programming delivered by nonprofit partners, volunteers, and DOC staff, the provision of group and individual services to incarcerated individuals and tracking program attendance and performance, the Program Coordinator’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

- Using motivational interviewing and other techniques to engage persons in custody in reentry
services as well as assess their needs, including employment, housing, and substance use;
referring persons in custody to partner organizations for services;
- Conduct group and individual counseling to promote skill-development and personal growth;
- Plan and coordinate programs and services for person in custody;
- Draw on research and feedback from persons in custody individuals to design and develop
innovative programming;
- Contribute to the development of innovative strategies to maximize program participation
and performance;
- Track program participation and prepare reports to document activities; evaluate program
performance against targets;
- Identify high-need areas and target services appropriately;
- Tour facilities to gain feedback from persons in custody and staff;
- Develop partnerships and collaborative relationships with service providers to ensure smooth
service delivery;
- Assist in the development of short- and long-term plans for reentry programming; research
best practices to inform program improvement; carry out special projects to support
programmatic activities/services and reentry services;
- Prepare presentation materials, review reports and documents, prioritize and manage multiple
projects simultaneously.
- Prepare weekly report, monthly reports, clearance requests, and meeting minutes;
- Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

- Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) proficiency. - Experience in a high-paced environment, with the ability to manage information and distribute appropriately. - Ability to establish positive working relationships with multiple units and different levels of staff. - Excellent writing, communication, inter-personal, analytical, research, problem-solving, and organizational skills. - The candidate must be well-organized, proactive, resourceful, flexible, and able to communicate with staff (at all levels) in a fast- paced environment, meet deadlines, and perform with a high level of professionalism.
