The Office of Nightlife (ONL) is a dedicated, non-enforcement liaison to City government for New York City's nightlife industry and community. The unit works to: Support business and workforce development and recovery; Coordinate systemic solutions to support the nighttime economy, culture, and quality of life; Promote New York’s position as a global leader in the nightlife industry; Assist nightlife establishments in navigating City processes, permits, other requirements; and Advise City agencies on trends in the nightlife industry.
SBS seeks an experienced senior professional to lead the daily operations of ONL as Executive Director and promote an economically and culturally vibrant nightlife industry that serves the best interests of the City’s residents, workers, small businesses, and neighborhoods. The Executive Director will spearhead the Office of Nightlife overarching strategy to continue to address challenges and opportunities in NYC’s nightlife industry; advocate for additional policies and programs to support nightlife businesses, workers, and communities; and manage day-to-day operations, while leading a team with policy, outreach, and strategic planning expertise, and core administrative functions.
The Executive Director will:
- Lead and set the agenda for and managing day to day operations of ONL, including supervising a team;
- Direct the unit as a hub of coordination and intermediary between City agencies, law enforcement, elected officials, the nightlife industry, and NYC residents;
- Assist nightlife businesses with permitting, licensing, and other government navigation;
- Advise on the City’s policymaking to support a vibrant nightlife in New York City while ensuring health and safety of patrons, residents and communities are protected;
- Work closely with business services, workforce development, and stakeholders to develop programming and content tailored to helping the nightlife economy grow and thrive;
- Monitor trends, issues, and violations issued to nightlife establishments and develop methods to address issues in consultation with industry representatives, City agencies, community boards, residents, and other relevant stakeholders;
- Develop strong ties to the nightlife community, business associations, community boards, community and residential groups, city agencies and other key stakeholders;
- Work collaboratively with City and State agencies to address longstanding issues relating to nightlife operations;
- Oversee the production of an annual report, as well as regular communications with nightlife industry partnership via newsletters, social media, etc.;
- Represent the office at various industry events, commissions, and the City Council.
