The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Office of Crime Control Strategies analyzes and monitors trends across the city and develops strategies targeted to reducing crime, while ensuring that these strategies are applied across all units of the NYPD. Data collection, analysis, and technology tracking of existing trends and conditions to develop efficient strategies to suppress crime.

The Executive Agency Counsel, M-III, designated Executive Director, Criminal Investigations will:

- Coordinate citywide long-term case strategy focusing on violent crimes, criminal group conflicts and other significant investigations
- Act as a liaison for the Chief of Crime Control Strategies related to violent crime and other sensitive areas
- Coordinate long-term case activity with the Detective Bureau, other investigative entities and prosecutorial agencies
- Perform other investigative collaboration and coordination as directed by the Chief of Crime Control Strategies


Minimum Qualifications

Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.

Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.


Preferred Skills

- This position requires admission to the New York State Bar and at least 10 years of recent, full-time, relevant legal experience. - Prior experience should include at least 6 years of significant litigation experience in the areas of constitutional and criminal law and substantial experience investigating and prosecuting violent crimes and narcotics cases and significant experience conducting / supervising historical violence and conspiracy cases. - Ability to manage highly complex and sensitive legal work, while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues. - Experience working collaboratively and cross-functionally with stakeholders and outstanding written and verbal skills. - Familiarity with Department policies and procedures.
