The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.
The Facilities Management Division (FMD) administers and supervises the maintenance of Department buildings, identifies and implements capital projects involving facility management, and exercises management control over the Building Maintenance Section, Campus Management Section, and the Custodial Services Section.
Under the direction of the Assistance Commissioner, Facilities Management Division, the Executive Director, Building Operations will be responsible for the following:
-Oversee the Building Maintenance Section, which is responsible for maintaining, repairing and renovating all Police Department structures, facilities and buildings as necessary; The Executive Director will be responsible for a Capital Budget of $25,967,676.00 million.
-Oversee the Campus Management Section which is responsible for operating and maintaining Police Headquarters, the Police Forensic Laboratory, the Police Academy and the Candidate Assessment Center. As well as managing the Headquarters garage. The selected candidate will coordinate the movement and distribution of all mail throughout the Department, exercising management control over the Headquarters Custodial Unit, Police Academy Custodial Unit, Candidate Assessment Division Custodial Unit, Headquarters Garage Unit, and Mail and Distribution Unit.
-Oversee the Custodial Services Section, which manages custodial personnel not supervised by the Campus Management Section, assigned throughout the City. Perform periodic facility inspections to evaluate custodial personnel. Exercise management control over the citywide Clean Teams.

1. Eight years of full-time experience in construction, repair, alteration and/or rehabilitation of multiple dwellings, commercial, industrial or public buildings in the capacity of general contractor, superintendent of construction, procurement specialist, evaluator responsible for cost estimation, or as a field supervisor or as an inspector, at least 18 months of which must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity involving responsibility for a large number of buildings; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above. Education in an accredited college leading toward a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, engineering technology or a closely related field will be accepted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years. However, all candidates must possess at least 18 months of the specialized supervisory or administrative experience described in "1" above.
Strong knowledge of repair and maintenance and building systems issues, sufficient to determine scope and monitor changes strong customer service orientation and attention to detail strong organizational skills, computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint Adobe Pro), and writing skills ability to adapt quickly to new technology strong quantitative and qualitative skills ability to manage a wide range of projects simultaneously understanding of budget and fiscal policies and procedures, and ability to multi-task and flexibility to respond to multiple and often urgent directives.
