The mission of the Strategic Initiatives Bureau is to design and drive long term, enterprise-wide transformation by evaluating policies, programs, and resources to strive towards maximum organizational effectiveness. Strategic Initiatives serves as a primary advisor to the Police Commissioner regarding the Department's short and long term strategic goals and examines new technologies and innovative solutions to help the Department fulfill its primary mission of keeping New York City safe. Strategic Initiatives Bureau oversees the Office of Strategic Initiatives, the Office of Management, Analysis, and Planning (OMAP), the Data Analysis and Mapping Section, Management Analysis Section, Management Orders and Directives Section, the Office of Research and Evaluation, and the Project Management Office.

The New York City Police Department has a unique career opportunity for an experienced Director of Innovation, to work within the Strategic Initiatives Bureau. Under the leadership of the Assistant Deputy Commissioner, the Director will oversee research and evaluation of legal strategy, emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the law enforcement field.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position requires an attorney with a license to practice law in the State of New York, and at least 7 years of recent full-time responsible, relevant legal experience, subsequent to admission to the Bar. Prior experience should include significant litigation experience in constitutional and criminal issues. The candidate should also have familiarity with Department policies and operations, through knowledge of legal strategies and methodologies and outstanding written and verbal skills.

In compliance with Federal Law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Minimum Qualifications

Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.

Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.


Preferred Skills

Preference will be given to individuals with expertise and experience in the following areas: - At least 5 years of experience in project management within large, complex organizations and mediating among groups with competing perspectives facilitating large group of project stake holders. - Comprehensive knowledge of the issues that face New York State and the City's Criminal Justice System
