The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

The Associate Investigator will be responsible for managing all human resources requisitions. This includes liaising with Procurement, Budget, Material Logistics, Audits, and Accounts to meet all HR needs. Apart from regular supplies purchasing, the selected person will handle all HR projects, including liaising with IT for DataEase and the HR Tracking System.
The responsibilities of this role are diverse and may include, but are not limited to:
- Working with the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) assigns cases to correct case type.
- Triages evidence and makes determination for assignment
- Works close with the NYPD and District Attorney Offices in the five boroughs.
- Investigates evidence mistakes, missing items and chain of custody issues.
- Ensures that Forensic Biology cases are entered in LIMS timely and vouchers are associated with case.
- Stays abreast of emerging technological advances in areas of expertise.
- Performs special assignments/projects as directed.
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent; and
a. Two years of full-time, satisfactory experience in the areas of security, law enforcement and/or active military duty; or
b. Successful completion of 60 college semester credits at an accredited college or university with at least a 2.0 cumulative index grade point average.
Driver License Requirement: By the time you are appointed to this position, you must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
Special Patrolman Requirement: At the time of appointment, you must meet the following qualifications for Special Patrolman status (a status given by the New York City Police Department pursuant to Title 38, Chapter 13 of the Rules of the City of New York).
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to the minimum qualification requirements, at least one year of experience in Assignment Level I or in a supervisory capacity.
