The Tenancy and Eviction Support Services Unit works in partnership with NYC City agencies, including the City network of case management agencies, caregiver programs, older adult centers, healthcare providers, the court system, and Aging Connect to identify and support older adults who are facing housing court issues.
NYC Aging seeks a dynamic, motivated, and detail-oriented individual to serve as an Eviction Support Specialist to provide social case assistance to older adult tenants who are facing eviction in Housing Court for non-payment of their rents and holdover proceedings citywide by conducting home visits, meeting clients in Housing Court as well as contacting clients via telephone.
In addition, responsibilities will include:
- Provide quality social services to the elderly who are at risk of eviction.
- Prepare rental assistant grants/loan applications; community base charities rental assistant grants applications; SCRIE/DRIE and Section 8 programs recertification applications packages; screen and refer clients to NYC HRA Adult Protective Services and or other housing service providers.
- Work with clients to help them apply and advocate for appropriate entitlements, benefits and other social services needed by the clients to maintain their home, including applying for “one-shot deals” through HRA, homecare, making referrals to mobile crisis, Adult Protective Services, locating and applying for more adequate housing that suits the clients’ needs, collaborating with other non-profits agencies.
- Create community linkages and serve as a liaison with community-based organizations.
- Refer clients to NYC HRA / DSS Office of Civil Justice and NYC Aging Legal Services for the Elderly contracted legal services providers
Conduct field work, make home visits and assist older adults in the resource room within the housing court system.
- Create new client profiles, update clients’ case notes in the agency's client database, daily. Complete reports, work with the Director in developing a case status updates report after each assessment of the clients unmet social service needs to be presented to the housing court judge.
- Support special projects assigned by the unit Director.
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in social casework, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills. - Self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team. - Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.). - Proficiency in data management is preferred for this position. - Bi-lingual proficiency in (Spanish/English) a preferred qualification. - Masters Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Services, Psychology, or closely related degree a plus. - NYS Drivers license a plus.
