The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Division of Facilities Management and Construction Services Unit is responsible for the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of all DEP facilities, including both leased and City-owned space.
The Environmental Health and Safety Project Specialist will be responsible for performing professional work of varying degrees; coordinate and perform field activities associated with project tasks as directed.
Main tasks:
-Assist in pest control activities; collaborate with Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) community programs; participate in collection of specimen from compromised office areas; track incidents and assists in outreach, assist with training and coordination of activities with affected bureaus; respond to building complaints.
-Assist in performing routine work in the administration of various components of safety and health programs and make recommendations on policies and procedures; monitor and evaluate effectiveness of community programs
-Support activities associated with DEP's EHS programs; prepares and maintains data for reporting purposes.
-Maintain databases for required tracking projects for contracts and evaluates reports, reviews program plans and performance.
-Provide technical assistance and training to staff in techniques for hazardous materials program implementation and management; review health and safety plans; conduct special studies and surveys
Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
Preferred skills: -MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
