Job Description
The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865, FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Department's core values.
The Fire Department of the City of New York City (“FDNY”) has established a Medical Billing Compliance Program to ensure that its employees and agents, either through an employment agreement or independent contract *(“employees”), comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and program requirements when submitting claims for payment and reimbursement of ambulance services.
This program is intended to provide a comprehensive statement of the responsibilities and obligations of employees regarding claims submissions for ambulance services to patients, private insurance companies, and Medicare. In addition, this program is intended to apply to business arrangements with vendors, hospitals, and other persons or entities, which may be impacted by federal or state laws relating to fraud and abuse.
Internal Audit (IA) is currently seeking an FDNY EMS Paramedic to fill a position within its EMS Medical Billing Compliance Unit. Under the direction of the Internal Audit Supervisor, the roles and responsibilities for the selected candidate include, but are not limited to:

- Assist the EMS Medical Billing Compliance Program with monitoring the Department’s compliance with governing rules and regulations.
