Construction & Technical Services (CTS) consists of a design, construction and technical team of architects, engineers, elevator mechanics, as well as project & property managers who provide services for time-sensitive rehabilitation, renovations, and maintenance in City-owned properties.
CTS also has an in-house Trade Shop (Shops) that houses all the skilled trades under one roof. These trades provide critical service to all the 56 buildings in the DCAS portfolio and are used from small scale repairs to construction projects. These services include rough and finish carpentry, all types of electrical repairs, plumbing work, interior/exterior painting, concrete, and masonry work, as well as sheet metal and structural steel work. All the trades have skilled laborers to assist with the shops' projects. This full range skill set enables the Shops to provide needed support for the entire portfolio and can even manufacture parts for obsolete machines and equipment.
The duties and responsibilities for an electrician include but are not limited to:
- Installs, repairs, and maintains high or low tension electrical systems for light, heat, power, and communication in or on buildings.
- May serve as a special electrician, preparing applications and reports; and obtaining permits and approvals for electrical work to be performed as may be required by rule, regulation and/or
statute.
- Installs, repairs, replaces, and maintains electric wiring systems and components, equipment, and apparatus in or on buildings or structures in accordance with the provisions of the New York City electrical Code, pertinent plans and specifications or jobs orders.
- Conducts tests on existing installations to determine faults and makes necessary repairs.
1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician; or
2. At least three years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician and sufficient full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician's helper or apprentice electrician or education in the electrical or electronic field acquired in an approved trade, technical school or vocational high school or college or university to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 credits, from an accredited college or university, for one year of experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of such helper or apprentice experience, or education in an approved trade or technical school or vocational high school in the electrical or electronic field. Less than a full year of helper or apprentice experience, or relevant education, will receive prorated credit.
3. License Requirements
For appointment to certain positions, candidates will be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
For assignment as a special electrician, candidates must possess and maintain the license(s) and/or certificate(s) required to perform these duties.
- Ability to work under limited supervision and to handle multiple priority assignments with limited time constraints - Ability to respond rapidly and accurately to requests, and work in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment - Demonstrates personal initiative, responsibility, leadership, and flexibility
