The Education Liaison position reports to the Deputy Director of Education/Deputy Director of Youth on a schedule of daily tasks needed to be accomplished for the management of the community and building needs. The Education Liaison will:
-Coordinate Borough President’s community activities such as arts education and youth seminars, back-to-school events, college fairs, job fairs, food giveaways;
-Participate in community outreach efforts to improve awareness of issues affecting education and youth in the community;
-Foster new relationships within the community-based organizations to support program participants both academically, and socially;
-Attend Community on Education Council, Panel on Education Policy, Department of Education, Department of Youth and Community Development, Department of Health, and other meetings to reconcile and summarize reports;
-Assist in the research and writing and formation of policy documents;
-Ensure our constituents feel welcome, valued and provided with needed information;
-Work closely with the Team to ensure events run smoothly;
-Be the point of contact for members and guests throughout events;
-Create social media content during each event including photos, and videos;
-Ensure that each guest signs into the space, and can access the event or meeting space they are attending;
-Foster new relationships within the community-based organization, coalitions, and consortiums to support program participants both academically, and socially;
-Oversee relevant cross-agency, and interagency collaboration, and working groups focused on sharing data, coordinating services, and improving educational outcomes;
-Advocate on clients’ behalf with schools, and other related agencies and offices;
-Provide clients with information, and referrals to outside services for themselves and their children;
-Participate in all staff meetings, trainings, and/or professional development sessions as directed;
-Participate in community presentations and/or outreach events to establish and strengthen partnerships;
-Write, and archive departmental reports;
-Write briefs for leadership;
-Conduct school visits on a rotating basis;
-Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
