Job Description

Natural Resources Capital Design and Construction is a team of designers, foresters, project managers and construction managers who translate natural areas management goals for Parks' forests, wetlands, and waterways into capitally funded construction projects. We design and construct wetland, shoreline, and forest restoration projects, green infrastructure retrofits and public access corridors within sensitive habitats and natural areas.

Major Responsibilities
- Under general direction of the Deputy Director of Ecological Construction, supervise a group of Construction Project Managers in the successful completion of ecological construction contracts.
- Assist the Deputy Director in coordinating the construction work of the Natural Resources Group, including wetland and upland restoration, green infrastructure, and public access to natural areas.
- Plan, assign and oversee the work of Construction Project Managers (CPM). Instruct assigned staff on administrative procedures.
- Support CPMs in their oversight of consultant resident engineers, monitor their supervision of construction activities, track overall construction progress and review CPM’s oversight of shop drawing review and approval process.
- Conduct site inspections for quality assurance and compliance with environmental permits, natural resource protection and plant and seed installation.
- Review and conduct due diligence on field changes, overruns and change orders.
- Coordinate with the Director of Contract Administration for Environment & Planning to ensure timely advertisement of work orders for project supervision and inspections.
- Serve as a liaison with other agencies and departments, utility companies, contractors and consultants.
- Review project drawings during design phase (75% - 90% complete) for constructability.
- Develop creative solutions to solve problems while working in a variety of conditions and situations.
- Assist in the monitoring of various contract administrative requirements, including Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) goals, Grantor contract documentation, and Project Labor Agreements.

ADMINISTRATIVE HORTICULTURIST - 1007C


Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with major study in horticulture, arboriculture, or landscape architecture and four years of full-time, paid experience in horticultural work of which two (2) years must have been in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive capacity; or

2. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must have at least a high school diploma or evidence of having passed an examination for a high school equivalency diploma and one year of supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial, or executive experience as described above.


Preferred Skills

1. Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental, Civil, or Structural Engineering, Landscape Architecture or related field. 2. Experience overseeing green infrastructure, ecological restoration and landscape construction in urban environments. 3. Excellent supervisory, communication and administrative, and interpersonal skills. 4. Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders and agencies through design and construction process. 5. Knowledge of soils and native plants for ecological restoration. 6. Familiarity with environmental regulations.
