Job Description

Bronx Community Board No. 10 is a New York City agency established to identify our community’s pressing issues and advocate through city government to meet those needs, In addition, we are empowered through the New York City Charter to make advisory decisions on land use, budgets, public policy and to monitor city services. The Board is composed of appointed members who represent different areas of our district, which includes City Island, Co-op City, Pelham Bay, Throggs Neck, Westchester Square and Zerega.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under direction of the Community Board, the District Manager (DM):

- Directs and supervises the day-to-day operations of the Board office in a professional and efficient manner; Supervises office staff
- Makes policy recommendations to the Board, executes policy set by the Board, and serves as liaison between the Board, government agencies and community groups.
- Offers official statements and represents the Board to all local and citywide media
- In conjunction with Committee Chairs, monitors and evaluates of municipal services within the district
- Works with committee chairs on formulating agendas, coordinating full Board and committee meetings and setting up public meetings.
- Responds to constituent concerns relating to services provided by municipal agencies within the district and reports those concerns to the Board
- Monitor and respond to correspondence from government agencies, the board, and the public in a timely fashion
- Maintains Community Board files, records and property in both paper and electronic form
- Works with the officers of the Board on its internal budget and treasurer reports
- Responsible for timely data entry for payment processing of Board bills and expenses through City Financial Management System
- Works with Committee chairs and Board members to assist with various needs of the committees
- Makes strategy recommendations to the Board on capital and expense budget priority recommendations for New York City
- Responsible for managing the board website and social media sites
- Establishes agenda and presides at meetings of the District Service Cabinet, composed of agencies providing municipal services.
- Oversee the dissemination of meeting notices, calendars as well as letters and resolutions to appropriate agencies and external parties.
- Participates in the formulation and development of Community Board procedures and executes policies & procedures as necessary.
- Attends monthly Board Meetings, Borough Service and Borough Board meetings
- Establishes and maintains a working relationship with local elected officials and their representatives, city agencies, nonprofit organizations, faith-based organizations, businesses and other community groups
- Performs other general and miscellaneous tasks to support the mission and work of the Board
- Must be an advocate for the Board’s views, as directed by the Board

Minimum Qualifications


1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in community work, public administration or planning or related fields, or public information or relations, of which one year must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or

2. An associate degree from an accredited community college and four years of fulltime satisfactory experience in community work, public administration or planning or related fields, or public information or relations, of which one year must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or

3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of fulltime satisfactory experience in community work, public administration or planning or related fields, or public information or relations, of which one year must have been in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or

4. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above.

Important Skills & Requirements - Cultural sensitivity and competency for a diverse population - Must be able to travel locally - Must have the ability to multi-task, working both individually and with others establish and meet deadlines communicate effectively with staff, members of the Board, and members of the community - Interest, familiarity and experience with community boards and/or NYC government - Keen understanding of all neighborhoods’ unique features, land use, and concerns. - Takes initiative, uses sound judgement and demonstrates service orientation - Excellent oral and written communications skills - Computer proficiency including mastery in MS Office, MS Teams and MS Share point, social media and Board website - Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment - Must be a team player and enjoy interacting with people daily - Superior organizational skills and keen attention to details, including the ability to effectively juggle multiple projects and meet strict deadlines. - Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Residency Requirement


New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
