The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The mission of the School Safety Division is to work collaboratively with school administration to provide a safe environment, conducive to learning, where students and faculty can be free from hostility and disruptions which could negatively impact the educational process.

The School Safety Division is responsible for the safety of over 1.1 million students in over 1,800 schools located in over 1,400 physical sites throughout New York City's five (5) boroughs.

Under direction of the Commanding Officer, School Safety Division, the designated Director is responsible to improve the quality of training through the implementation of Department-wide professional standards, and by ensuring consistency to meets the needs and demands of the Department. This includes, but is not limited to preparing formalized reports of training courses/programs, staying up-to-date with policy changes that will impact training, and ensuring that mandatory department trainings are completed in a timely manner.

This position will also involve conducting field inspections, administrative reviews, audits, and investigations of misconduct to ensure/promote high standards of integrity for members citywide. The Director will assign designated teams to provide a comprehensive auditing of individual commands to document compliance with Department policies and directives and will provide input and oversight on operational functions of the entire division.


Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess strong managerial, leadership, interpersonal, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. All applicants must possess exemplary sick and disciplinary
records.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
