The Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York (TRS) is a public pension fund that provides New York City educators with retirement, disability, and death benefits. TRS is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional with a strong commitment to security and safety to join our team as the Director of Security. The Director of Security plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of the agency by overseeing a wide range of responsibilities. This position is responsible for shaping security policies and priorities, enforcing security regulations, and developing innovative security and emergency response systems. This position also requires acting as the primary advisor to executive management on security related matters.
Responsibilities:
- Participates in the formulation of the agency's security policies and priorities. Has the primary responsibility for enforcing the Security Division's policies and regulations.
- Develops and implements new security and emergency response systems and methods as required. Sets general security goals/objectives and priorities for the agency. Responsible for all quality assurance matters for department, assuring that all facility and building standards are maintained.
- Acts as principal adviser to the agency's executive management and program heads on security issues. Works directly with executive staff and/or security managers of client agencies to plan, implement and maintain security systems.
- Is responsible, should the agency require the services of private security agencies, for all aspects of contract solicitation coordinate vendor inspections and management. Utilize approved New York City procurement strategies, including but not limited to bids, requests for proposals and sole resource contracts.
- Manages and assures that all security-facility related equipment and supplies are maintained and stored appropriately corresponding all necessary needs to building administration.
- Liaison between agency and building for all security matters. Ensure security access and loading dock requirements are updated and maintained. Preserves agency’s floor plans and floor access.
- Works directly with the NYC Police Department in developing and implementing procedures concerning deputization, processing of arrests, warrants and other related matters. Conducts all security investigations and coordinate with external law enforcement, emergency services, building security, and government agency professionals on an as needed basis.
- Sets security goals and priorities for the agency.
- Act as fire safety coordinator for TRS with the building.
- Compile, monitor and communicate needs to all stakeholders.
- Provide annual Fire Safety and emergency procedure training.
- Assess floors by conducting regular "Walk Arounds" for building/safety violations and repairs (lighting repairs or equipment servicing) addressing identified matters within time frames allotted.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the administration of an employees' retirement system, at least 18 months of which must have been in a responsible managerial or executive capacity; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must possess at least 18 months of experience in a responsible managerial or executive capacity as described above.
