The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets. The Bureau of Public Affairs seeks a Director of Project Management. Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner of Public Affairs & Customer Experience, the Director of Project Management oversees production, materials, and vendor management related to the Department’s public messaging and engagement.

The candidate will be responsible for directing a small team that handles procurement, inventory, and the facilitation of contracts.

The Director will also handle certain aspects of correspondence and customer service, and additional duties as assigned. This position will be responsible for overseeing aspects of cross-team project management within the Bureau of Public Affairs.


Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

The ideal candidate has at least five years experience in government, ideally with a focus on project management, inventory control, production, and customer service.
