The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City's evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 9,000 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

DOC is recruiting a dynamic candidate to serve as our Director of Marketing within the Office of Public Information. Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner, Public Information with latitude for independent decision-making, the Director will be responsible for the following:
- Arrange, manage, implement, coordinate, and evaluate consumer-facing advertising/ communication campaigns and events.
- Interface with department and leadership stakeholders for campaigns and materials.
- In coordination with Director of Creative Services, recommend in-house or out-of-house resources for creative, production, or media buying, depending on objectives of campaign
- Direct media buying for the advertising campaigns, within the >$1Mil budget. Follow the City procurement rules and the Executive Order 47/Local Law 83 of 2021.
- Secure as much “free media’ from City resources as possible, for every flight via relationship building with contacts at other agencies including NYC&Co, NYFerry, NYC Media and more.
- Ideate campaign ideas, copywriting and script writing when needed.
- Establishes short-term and long-term external communications strategy in conjunction with division heads with the advertising needs.
- Ensures department initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for interagency collaborations to broaden the agency's brand.
- Prepares recap reports, evaluation reports, performs analyses and reviews communication plans.
- Write creative briefs.
- Write vendor scopes.
- Manage the agency's magazine and identify creative ways to broaden circulation.
- Represent the agency by attending and supporting at both internal and external events.
- Recommend and coordinate focus groups and surveys to solicit feedback from staff, other stakeholders, and consumers/New Yorkers. Present outcomes.
- Assist with special projects and perform related duties as assigned.
- Provide direction on DOC career and main public website, online ads/media buys, eblasts,+
- Execute brand and recruitment campaigns.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and four years of full-time experience in corrections, social work, psychology, law, public administration, law enforcement, or a related field providing direct services to an inmate or detention population within a correctional or related facility, at least one (1) year of which must have been in a responsible supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity; or

2. A high school diploma or evidence of having passed a high school equivalency examination and six (6) years of full-time experience as described above; or

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Service as an inmate in correctional or related facility may be substituted for a portion of the required experience up to a maximum of two years on a year for year basis. A graduate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social work, psychology, law, criminal justice or public administration which includes a field placement performing duties as described above, may be substituted for up to one year of full-time experience as described in "1" above. However, all candidates must have at least two years of full-time experience as described in "1" above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity.
