OFFICE OF CHIEF MEDICAL EXMAMINER
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person. We exist to provide answers in support of families, victims, and community during times of profound need.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Executive Director of Forensic Operations, with latitude for independent judgment and unreviewed action and decision, the selected candidate will have duties which include, but are not limited to:
- In absence of the Executive Director of Forensic Operations, will assume all of his/her responsibilities
- Provide oversight for Mortuary, Transportation, Fleet/Logistics, and any other units falling under the direction of the Executive Director of Forensic Operations
- Provide direction to the Director and Assistant Directors of Mortuary and Transportation and Director of Fleet/Logistics
- Reports to the Executive Director of Forensic Operations and communicates all operational updates or issues to them
- Conduct and participate in Agency and Interagency meetings as directed by the Executive Director of Forensic Operations
- Perform analysis of operational workloads and provide reports as requested
- Create, draft, and review standard operating procedures
- Perform tasks in support of management of Forensic Operations human resources including assignments, attendance control, training, and discipline
- Perform procurement tasks including specifying and identifying needed equipment, entering requisitions, monitoring budgets, documenting purchase and receipt of orders.
- Participate in OCME Medical Examiner Special Operations incidents, trainings, and meetings.
- Participate in OCME rotating emergency response schedule as an on-call responder
- Participate in OCME's emergency response and provide assistance in the deployment of OCME's Logistics assets
- In the absence of the Director/Assistant Director of Mortuary and Director of Fleet/Logistics, will provide direction to the staff of those units.
1.Master’s degree from an accredited college in emergency management, public health, disaster management, emergency preparedness/administration, public administration, or related field and one (1) year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following area(s): emergency preparedness planning/management, emergency medical services, fire or public safety, law enforcement, homeland security, public health, mental health, environmental/occupational health and safety or a related specialized area; or
2.A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one of the areas described in “1” above; or
3.A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. However all candidates must have a minimum of one (1) year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one of the areas described in “1” above.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
