Job Description

This vacancy has now expired.

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets. DSNY’s Bureau of Facilities Planning and Engineering (FP&E) seeks to fill a current vacancy for its Director of Facilities Management.

Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner for FP&E, the Director of Facilities Management will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of Department facilities and will serve as a liaison with the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC). The successful candidate will coordinate all DDC-managed capital construction at DSNY facilities; review designs, monitor construction, and provide overall project coordination between FP&E and other DSNY bureaus to ensure that construction projects meet DSNY’s requirements and expectations. The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing and overseeing the Job Order Contracts (JOCS) unit, which manages small and medium contracts used for emergency or time-sensitive repair and rehabilitation of DSNY garages, salt sheds and other properties. In addition, the successful candidate will liaison with the DSNY’s Real Estate Unit to ensure that site acquisition and management align with strategic plans and construction schedules; provide leadership and management for programs and projects, initiate and facilitate team efforts, and help to define goals and project timelines, resource requirements and project planning.
