The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets.
Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner for FP&E, the Director of Facilities Management will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Department facilities and serve as a liaison between the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) and DSNY stakeholders.
Responsibilities included but are not limited to:
- Coordination of all DDC Managed Capital Construction at DSNY facilities.
- Reviews designs, monitors construction and provides overall project coordination with DSNY’s Facilities, Planning & Engineering, Bureau of Building Management and Bureau Offices, Bureau of Operations, Bureau of Information Technology, and Bureau of Building Maintenance to ensure construction projects meet DSNY’s requirements and expectations.
- Liaison with the Department’s Real Estate Unit to ensure that site acquisition and management align with the Department’s short and long-term strategic plans as well as construction project schedules.
- Provides leadership and management for programs and projects. Initiates and facilitates team efforts and helps to define goals and project timelines, resource requirements and project planning.
- Develops strategies to achieve organizational goals and adapt strategies to changing conditions.
1. Baccalaureate degree and two (2) years of full-time paid supervisory position in the building trade; or
2. High school graduate and four (4) years of full-time supervisory experience as listed in "1"; or
3. A satisfactory equivalent
- Possesses experienced in-depth knowledge of design, construction, project management and capital project delivery. - High level functional technical knowledge and skills working in a large organization, public utility or facilities. - Strong organization and project management skills. The ability to manage multiple tasks and has prior experience working with and managing complex systems across large number of stakeholders. - Advanced knowledge of general management, project management, personnel management, supervisory techniques and principles. - Strong written and verbal communication skills and prior experience working with a diverse workforce. - Prior experience and knowledge of NYC construction budgeting and procurement - Possesses a valid NYS Professional Engineer License - Possesses a valid Driver License.
