FDNY seeks a full-time Director of Court & Regulatory Compliance in the Bureau of Legal Affairs. Under the direction of the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel, with considerable latitude for independent initiative, judgment and discretion, the Director of Court & Regulatory Compliance will be responsible for: Monitor court and regulatory compliance efforts (other than health care compliance), such as (1) court orders and/or settlements that contain a compliance component; and (2) audits by federal, state, or city agencies. Assist the NYC Law Department with all state and federal court litigation involving compliance orders. Monitor compliance with the Modified Remedial Order and settlement in U.S.A., et al. v. City of New York, including participating in the development of strategies, policies, and procedures. Develop and maintain enhanced policies and procedures for documentation of FDNY court and regulatory matters. Provide proactive advice, counsel and training at all levels of the FDNY on lawful, appropriate, equitable and consistent management practices consistent with court orders, as well as regulatory requirements. Perform such other work as may be designated by the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel.

Minimum Qualifications

Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.

Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.


Preferred Skills

Verifiable experience and track record of success practicing law in federal and state court. Substantial working knowledge of NYC, NYS and federal employment laws. Extensive knowledge of NYC Government, and Administrative Law and Procedures. Proven ability to work in a dynamic work environment, meet strict deadlines, and work well with and lead others. Excellent research, verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and planning skills, with self-starter’s ability to solve problems independently.
