The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Director of Network Services in the Bureau of Technology Development and Systems (BTDS). Reporting directly to the First Deputy CIO, IT Operations, Standards and Security, the successful candidate will oversee the day- to- day operation of the Network Services group of the FDNY to ensure 24x7x365 availability of systems supporting mission critical operations in a life safety environment. The selected candidate will be directly responsible for Network Management and Operations, Network Engineering and Security Operations, covering all major Agency campuses, Public Safety Answering and Dispatch Centers and the hundreds of remote sites distributed Citywide. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, provisioning mission critical services including network design, analysis and implementation, network connectivity, infrastructure maintenance and monitoring, security (firewall and endpoint), policy enforcement, WAN related server/appliance management, wireless network access, technology integration, problem resolution and inter- agency communications. The selected candidate will collaborate with Agency and Bureau management, internal team members (both full time employees and contracted staff), external Agencies and oversight groups, and vendors to specify, design and implement data connectivity solutions for the FDNY.
1. A master's degree in computer science from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience in Information Technology (IT) including applications development, systems development, data communications and networking, database administration, data processing, or user services. At least eighteen (18) months of this experience must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity in the areas of applications development, systems development, data communications and networking, database administration, data processing or in the supervision of staff performing these duties; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and six (6) years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience as described in "1" above; or
4. A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and must possess at least three (3) years of experience as described in "1" above, including the eighteen (18) months of administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.
In the absence of a baccalaureate degree, undergraduate credits may be substituted for a maximum of two (2) years of the required experience in IT on the basis of 30 semester credits for six (6) months of the required experience. Graduate credits in computer science may be substituted for a maximum of one (1) year of the required experience in IT on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits in computer science for one (1) year of the required IT experience. However, undergraduate and/or graduate credits may not be substituted for the eighteen (18) months of experience in an administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory capacity as described in "1" above.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are key as is Cisco CCNP or higher certification with wide area networking experience. Proven understanding modern network systems, network platforms, and what is necessary for physical and logical layer 4 inter-connectivity. Ability to translate client and technical partner requirements into business and technical specifications. Experience with vendor management across multiple vendors in various locations. Demonstrated experience with enterprise network systems, IT security operations, cabling closet/data center/white space. Understanding of all components and sub-components of data network infrastructures.
