Job Description

Hours: Full-Time – 35 Hours

Only candidates who are permanent in the Administrative Engineer title or those who are reachable on the agency’s promotional list (exam #1506), or the open-competitive list (exam #1122) may apply. The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure is currently seeking a Director to support the Coastal Resiliency Program - Design team.

Successful candidates will report to the Assistant Commissioner and will supervise a design team of engineers and technicians responsible to carry out in-house and consultant design projects; ensure projects and tasks are completed on time and within budget; train engineers in the areas of design and consultant contract management; ensure payments and performance evaluations are done properly and timely; review consultants staffing and schedule; ensure proper staffing level is assigned to projects, schedules are reasonable, and corrective measures are implemented to avoid delays; and review fee proposals and conduct negotiations when required.

Additionally, the Director will represent the Assistant Commissioner in their absence and the unit at meetings dealing with Utility companies, City, State, and Federal agencies; provide technical support in the preparation of preliminary design scopes; prepare design standards and specifications and ensures the level of quality review is accurate and in a timely manner; represent the unit at coordination meetings; must have the ability to manage and train staff to carry out all areas of Design and Construction functions; and must understand FHWA, FTA, NYSDOT regulations, Federal, and City standards and procedures; keep up to date with the latest design standards and requirements and provide guidance to Design staff and Design consultants.

ADMINISTRATIVE ENGINEER - 10015


Minimum Qualifications

1. A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer and six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.


Preferred Skills

Please note the following preferred skills for this position: 1. Minimum of four years in a managerial, administrative, or supervisory position. 2. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills 3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD 4. Knowledge relevant to infrastructure work (i.e., roadway, sewer, and/or water main) 5. Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards 6. Comprehensive understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices 7. Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (preferred) 8. Valid driver's license (required) 9. Personal vehicle (preferred)
