The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Safety and Site Support seeks a Director within the Office of Construction Safety. The Director will manage all aspects of DDCs safety-related construction programs. The selected candidate will be directly responsible for the supervision of Safety Auditors, Accident Investigators and Code Compliance Specialists, and the enforcement of DDC construction safety policies/procedures to ensure that DDC capital construction projects conform to applicable local, state, and federal safety regulations. Other key responsibilities include oversight, management, and coordination of construction safety activities and processes, including accident/incident investigations, emergency response, review of contractor safety performance, various safety audits, safety plan/program review and acceptance, Safety Awareness program, safety-related procedures and contract documents development and updates, preparation of presentations, and the Office of Construction Safety and Site Support division representation at intra/inter-agency meetings. In addition, the selected candidate will prepare and distribute monthly safety reports; track Agency safety performance, identify trends; analyze audit and accident/incident investigation results to determine effectiveness of Agency policy, program and approach.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, business administration, or public administration, and five years of full-time satisfactory experience in the planning, administering or expediting of engineering design, and/or construction, or coordinating a very large engineering project, two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or
2. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of experience as described in "1" above; two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. An accredited Master's degree in one of the disciplines described in "1" above, a law degree, or a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect or Landscape Architect may be substituted for one year of the required experience. However, all candidates must have the two years of the administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.
Candidates should have a minimum of ten years of construction-related experience, including auditing and accident investigation. Candidates with a working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR, NYC Building Code, NYC Fire Code, MUTCD, and other local, state, and federal safety regulations is preferred. Candidates must have appropriate safety certifications, such as OSHA, NYC Building Department, Fire Safety Manager, Associate Safety Professional, and/or Certified Safety Professional. Candidates with strong supervisory and management skills and excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and communication skills is a plus.
