The Team You’ll Work With
The Mayor’s Office Creative Communications team is responsible for generating digital content representative of Mayoral policy and its impact on everyday New Yorkers. The team utilizes digital media to tell a unique story of City Hall and the City of New York through live social media coverage, official photos, videos, graphics, and more.
The Problems You’ll Solve
This is a hands-on role that may require travel around the five boroughs, rapid response to breaking news and city emergencies, and covering events around the city outside of traditional work hours. If the idea of going 600 feet underground on a construction site or riding along with a ferry captain at sunrise to tell the perfect NYC story excites you, you’ve found your dream team.
- Assist with daily social media content creation for multiple platforms and voices, with a special focus on our @nycgov, @nycmayor, and @nycmayorsoffice Instagram channels.
- Collaborate in multiple projects across accounts in coordination with key members of the Creative Communications team, as well as city agencies and external partners as applicable.
- Support social media video content production and editing.
- Aid Instagram infographic carousel creation using established templates for each distinct brand.
- Find moments to transform substantive, complex government announcements into engaging content.
- Monitor and forecast internet trends and identify opportunities to leverage those.
- Work closely with our social media lead to ideate and execute high-performing posts and recurring series across accounts.
About You
- You have experience in shooting and editing short-form video content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
- You are familiar with using Premiere Pro, or equivalent, for video editing.
- You are familiar with using graphic design programs such as Canva or Adobe Express.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in administration, research, management, analytical work, community work or community activities; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of experience as described in "1" above; or
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and/or experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience in administration, research, management, analytical work, community work or community activities.
- You have a background in political communications, marketing, or social media.
