Job Description
The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts
The DOC seeks to recruit a Dietitian whose task will include but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for the nutritional care of inmates and monitors the outcome with nutrition intervention.
- Instructing Food Service production staff concerning the preparation of meals using standardized
recipes and master menus.
- Participating in menu planning and recipe testing.
- Consulting with medical staff concerning appropriate diets to meet the nutritional needs of inmates.
- Inspecting assigned food service for compliance with accepted standards and departmental policies
related to food preparation, portion control and tray services.
- Performing Nutritional Assessment.
- Interviewing inmates to obtain history of food habits.
- Interpreting laboratory data in medical record.
- Preparing Nutrition Care Plan.
- Providing nutritional counseling to inmates on prescribed diets.
- Preparing progress notes as indicated.
- Maintaining records and writing reports.
- Assisting with preparation of nutritional analysis of general and therapeutic diet.

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, either one year served at Assignment Level I or one additional year of the experience described in "1" above.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, either one year served at Assignment Level II or two additional years of the experience described in "1" above, at least one year of which must have been supervisory, or spent performing professional procurement duties equivalent to those performed at Assignment Level III

Qualification Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, with a major in dietetics or foods and nutrition in a program approved by the American Dietetic Association (ADA); or
2. Registration as a Registered Dietitian by the ADA.
