The Capital Division at NYC Parks is responsible for managing the design, construction, and administration of capital projects to expand, improve, and revitalize these public spaces. The Design Administration Team oversees the Landscape Architecture unit in the Capital Division, which is the creative force that imagines and defines the aesthetics and use of new and refurbished public spaces. These designs impact neighborhood growth, public health and fun in communities throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
Major Responsibilities
- Under direction, with some latitude for the exercise of independent judgment or action, assist the Director of Landscape Architecture Resources and Chief of Landscape Architecture in the management and guidance of the Landscape Architecture program in a fast paced, challenging, collegial and rewarding environment.
- Coordinate and facilitate all phases of the internal schematic design review, manage meetings and agendas, communicate with other divisions, assist with presentation preparation, facilitate meetings, and track follow-ups. This includes running, assuring presenters keep to schedule, and emceeing questions from senior agency staff to ensure project staff adequately answer questions. This is a significant and active part of this position.
- Support the Design Administration Team, including the Public Design Commission Liaison, Specifications & Estimation Unit, Historic Preservation Unit, and Accessibility Coordinator.
- Maintain an archive of schematic presentations, agendas, meeting minutes, and other relevant records from design reviews.
- Assist with the management of the Design Resources drive, a toolbox of digital resources and reference materials designed to provide support and guidance to the Landscape Architecture teams.
- Prepare presentations, graphics, and visual aids for the Director of Landscape Architecture Design Resources and Chief of Landscape Architecture.
- Assist with management and editing standard templates including the design presentation InDesign and PowerPoint templates.
- Process design phase milestones and monitor progress for tasks assigned to the office of the Chief of Landscape Architecture using Unifier and other project management tools.
- Provide support for the Deputy Commissioner's office as needed, including communication with other divisions, gathering and analyzing capital project data, creating visual materials, and other projects as assigned.
- Assist with Parks' Landscape Architecture continuing education program. Coordinate logistics with presenters, draft quizzes, facilitate remote, in-person, and hybrid meetings, and process certifications.
- Research, schedule and coordinate submissions to external design award programs.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
1. A Bachelor's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, or a related field. 2. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Word and Excel. 3. Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign. 4. Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings and manage discussions. 5. Excellent problem solving, researching and organizational skills. Ability to focus on details and respond quickly to requests. 6. Experience creating presentations and clearly written documents for diverse audiences. 7. Valid New York State driver license.
