The candidate will serve as a Deputy Press Secretary in the Department of Transportation’s Press Office and perform a variety of duties. As part of the NYC DOT Press Office, the Deputy Press Secretary will be responsible for conveying information on various NYC DOT initiatives to the media through: writing remarks, press releases, agency statements, and press responses; identifying and pitching media outlets on DOT initiatives; prepping and staffing senior staff for interviews and public events; planning and organizing press events; and coordinating messaging with partner agencies.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Previous Press office experience government, firm, nonprofit or media organizations strongly desired. Preference will be given to candidates accustomed to dealing with the public and responding to media requests. Strong written/verbal communication skills needed.
