Job Description

The New York City Law Department is accepting applications from admitted attorneys for a Deputy EEO Officer in the Executive Division. The Deputy EEO Officer will report to the Chief EEO Officer, who reports directly to the Corporation Counsel. The hired attorney will be responsible for assisting the Chief EEO Officer with leading the NYC Law Department’s commitment to compliance with all federal, state, and local equal employment opportunity laws and policies. The Deputy EEO Officer will assist the Chief EEO Officer with building an agency of engagement, effectiveness, and access by developing related policies and programs in conjunction with Human Resources and Recruitment staff to attract, retain and foster a diverse and inclusive workforce. The Deputy EEO Officer will address all EEO-related claims and issues, and lead efforts related to design, implement, and monitor all EEO, inclusion and diversity initiatives at NYC Law Department. They also will help oversee the EEO team and the team’s work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Perform internal and external EEO investigations and inquiries as needed.
- Prepare EEO, Local Law, Diversity & Inclusion Reports and Memos.
- Oversee, monitor and/or participate in EEO-related trainings performed by staff.
- Work closely with DCAS, OCEI and Law Department staff to achieve training goals, reconcile training completion numbers and follow up with untrained employees.
- Oversee all EEO related databases to ensure all information is up-to-date and accurate.
- Oversee all correspondence related to EEO trainings and notifications.
- Work closely with EEO staff to create, maintain, promote, and distribute Language Access, Domestic Violence, Sexual Harassment, Disability, Accessibility, and Wellness resources.
- Oversee all EEO audits and Local Law compliance.
- Work with EEO staff to create, archive and organize EEO files.
- Oversee the team's use of the Citywide Equal Employment Database System (CEEDS).
- Assist the Chief EEO Officer with the supervision of EEO staff, College Aides and/or Interns.
- Approve timesheets and e-forms for EEO staff.
- Submit performance evaluations for EEO staff.
- The work of the Deputy EEO Officer may involve travel to other City offices throughout the 5 New York City boroughs.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be law school graduates who are admitted and good standing with the NYS Bar with at least 10 years legal experience. Candidates also must possess:

- Ability to effectively articulate the case for diversity, equity, and inclusion and create commitment to change efforts.


Preferred Skills

The ideal candidate also will have: - Hands-on case management experience in an EEO, Labor Relations or disciplinary unit - Experience supporting compliance-related policies, projects, and initiatives - Experience creating and analyzing complex data and survey responses to translate metrics, research, and trends into strategy - Extensive knowledge of the New York City’s EEO Policy - Working knowledge of city, state, and federal employment discrimination laws and policies - Experience delivering trainings - Experience with and commitment to successfully leading a team of attorneys and legal support professionals handling challenging matters with a demonstrated dedication to growing and developing the skills of team members.
